History
Second Life Bikes was founded in 2006 by Kerri Martin. The youth earn-a-bike program initially operated from the basement of the Holy Spirit Church. In 2010, the organization moved into its location on Main Street in Asbury Park. In 2013, the organization attempted to raise funds to purchase the building, but that initial effort was unsuccessful. In 2016, Second Life Bikes partnered with Cowerks, a local co-working/flex office operator to purchase the building.[1] Second Life continues to operate out of the storefront on Main Street, while Cowerks runs from suite 2, accessed via the rear of the building.
Services Offered
Youth Earn-A-Bike program
Youth participants may exchange 15 hours of volunteer time for a bicycle of their very own, which can then be repaired using the skills they learned in the shop. More information is available on the Second Life Bikes website.
