The PAGENAME is a 501c3 nonprofit located in Bozeman, Montana. We accept all donations of bicycles, parts, and cash allowing us to offer free and low cost bicycles to Bozeman and the surrounding Gallatin County.

The Bike Kitchen’s mission to empower and educate through refurbishing bicycles is fulfilled through our three programs and is facilitated by a staff of paid employees and volunteers. The by-product of our refurbishing efforts generates the necessary bicycle inventory we sell to pay for our organization’s overhead keeping our ratio of bikes sold to bikes given away approximately 1:1.

Contact Info
We are located at 2104 Industrial Drive, Bozeman, Montana. Take Rouse Avenue North out of downtown, under the Interstate, and then left on Griffin Drive. The Bike Kitchen is located at the corner of Industrial and Griffin. Please see our website for the most up to date hours.

History
We have grown from a grassroots, DIY operation in our founder's driveway, to an organization that squatted in a chicken coop on school district property, to a full service bicycle shop with 501c3 non-profit status.

Our Programs
Community Bikes
The Bozeman Bike Kitchen receives donated bicycles and parts from throughout the Gallatin Valley which are refurbished by our staff and general volunteers from the public (some of whom are participating in our Earn-a-Bike program). These bicycles are then redistributed back into the community through multiple channels. We have solid partnerships with local social organizations such as the Gallatin Valley Food Bank, HRDC, and Love Inc. through which we have arranged a voucher program offering bicycles free of charge to those in need. Under this program we also offer FREE coaster-brake bikes for kids (no voucher required).

Earn-a-Bike
The individuals and families who volunteer toward our Community Bikes program are eligible to earn a free bicycle frame, parts, shop time, and access to tools to build a bicycle for themselves. This is a great way to get hands-on experience toward building and maintaining your own bicycle and provides a low-to-no-cost reward for our volunteers. To learn more about how these hours are arranged and recorded, see one of our staff members on site at The Kitchen.

Community Shop Access
The Bozeman Bike Kitchen maintenance shop is open year-round to meet the needs of the Bozeman and Gallatin Valley community. Our staff and general volunteers are available to assist members of the community with all of their bike needs. This includes helping with simple tasks like flat tires, adjusting brake and shifting cables, and other minor bike adjustments, as well as more significant repairs (our shop is outfitted with full sets of professional bicycle repair tools). Although bicycling is primarily a fair-weather activity, many people in the Gallatin Valley continue to use their bicycle as a primary mode of transportation year-round. We are always amazed – summer and winter – at how busy our shop is and how much our services are needed and utilized. Use of our work stands and Park Tool Professional tool sets can be had for a modest donation, or work trade through our Community Bikes program can also be arranged. Please see a staff member on site at The Kitchen to learn more.

If someone creates a spam page, just 'delete' it and block the user with an 'infinite' timeframe. That way the page won't show up in searches or search engines anymore, and by blocking that person you are registering their IP address in a block list too -- so hopefully that will make it a *little* harder. --Jonathan 21:36, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Community Bicycle Collective Meetups Everywhere
Meetup Everywhere seems like it could be a great tool for bike collectives to organize their efforts in a unified fashion. Though meetup pages (not using the 'everywhere' model) exist for plenty of bike collectives already, they're largely disjointed and isolated--only functional within their particular areas; while this may be ideal for cities with multiple established collectives, smaller cities looking to startup their collectives would benefit from national or global solidarity and standards. Even established collectives existing amongst many could seek out solidarity with other area collectives through this tool and provide a simple and centralized way for cyclists in the area to determine what's available for them in terms of volunteer opportunities and services. I'd also like to link the global meetup page back to this wiki with the blessings of an admin, if I could.--Amor0fati 10:57, 6 March 2012 (PST)

Design Recommendations
Pre-Plan
Set your priorities with the 3-B's:

* Blue prints
* Budgets
* Builders

Contractors
Do what you do best - hire the rest. If you can't hire anyone, chances are you have a skilled volunteer you should get to know better.

Take Your Time
We can't always afford to do everything at once. Creata a timeline and break the project into smaller pieces and do that as you have time and as you can afford to do them. Saw dust also shows customers and donors that there is constant change and growth.

Stay Open
It is important to maintain your customer service through the everything. Have a BBQ, bring your tools to a local park, provide construction photos on Facebook. All this ensures that the public sees that things are moving along, racing along, rather than being stagnant.

Basic Design
* Traffic Flow: retail stores intentionally arrange things to make the customer walk by more things and spend more time in the store. You don't have to be evil about it, but you should still do this to avoid having people walking by expensive tools and also have them funnel past more information about your organization.
* Fixtures: These are what you hang things you are selling or giving away on. Try to get old ones donated from Local Bike Shops. Consider them an investment not an expense.
* Merchandising:
* Color: Paint the place with color tones that represent how you want the place to feel. Murals are great too, there is probably a graffiti artist in your area that needs to fullfill some community service hours.
We are located in the garage behind the house at 425 East Aspen Street in Bozeman, Montana. From Rouse Avenue, go East on Aspen (look for The Meat Shoppe) and then proceed to the last house on the left. Please do not disturb the tenants in the house.
We have grown from a very grassroots, DIY operation in the founder's driveway, to an organization that squatted in a chicken coop on school district property, to a shop paying our own rent with 501c3 non-profit status.
